The Komatsu D85EX is a mid-to-large class crawler bulldozer designed for heavy earthmoving and grading operations. It sits in a segment that balances drawbar pull and operational agility, making it a versatile choice for contractors requiring sustained pushing and dozing performance. The machine is built to Komatsu's established engineering standards for the D-series line, combining a robust undercarriage with a hydrostatic or power-shift transmission depending on variant configuration.
Crawler bulldozers of this class are commonly deployed in road construction, land clearing, mining site preparation, and large-scale earthworks. The D85EX size bracket is well suited to bulk material displacement, rough grading, and ripping operations where sustained tractive effort is required. Infrastructure contractors and quarry operators frequently rely on machines of this type for site establishment and ongoing ground preparation work.
Prior to purchase, a thorough inspection of the undercarriage is essential, as track components represent a significant portion of ongoing ownership cost for any crawler bulldozer. Buyers should assess sprocket wear, track shoe condition, and roller integrity alongside a review of available service records. Hydraulic system function, blade geometry, and the condition of the ripper assembly where fitted should all be verified. An independent pre-purchase inspection by a qualified technician familiar with Komatsu equipment is advisable before committing to any transaction at this price level.
Based on available European market data, the D85EX is positioned at an average transaction level of EUR 150,000, with the observed price range also centered at EUR 150,000. This places it in the upper tier of the mid-size dozer segment, reflecting the residual value typically associated with Komatsu's D-series in the European used equipment market. Buyers comparing options should evaluate comparable machines from competitors active in this class when assessing relative value.
