The Caterpillar D6T is a mid-size crawler bulldozer in the 20–25-tonne class, produced continuously since 2005. It is powered by a Cat C9.3 ACERT engine rated at 200 hp with a four-speed electronic power-shift transmission. The D6T is available in XL (standard track), XW (wide track), and LGP (low-ground-pressure) configurations. Cat's AccuGrade GPS-based grade control is a factory option. The cab is ROPS/FOPS certified.
The D6T is widely deployed in European civil engineering and infrastructure contracting. Road contractors use it for sub-base shaping and grading. It appears on Dutch dike maintenance projects, Belgian motorway widening schemes, and German industrial site preparation works. The power-shift transmission provides strong breakout force for reclaiming compacted material, relevant on sites that have been trafficked over winter.
Check the transmission oil for milky appearance or metallic particles. D6T gearboxes can develop clutch pack wear that is expensive to repair. Inspect final drives for oil leaks at the seal. Request the VIMS (Vital Information Management System) download from a Cat dealer. It contains detailed fault and load history. Undercarriage life varies: LGP machines on soft ground typically reach 5,000+ hours before rebuild; XL machines on rock may need attention at 2,500–3,500 hours.
The D6T competes with the Komatsu D65PX and Liebherr PR734. Cat's dealer network and parts availability across Europe support healthy residual values. The used D6T market in NL/BE/DE is liquid with a consistent supply of contractor-maintained machines. Prices for the 2014–2020 period are moderate. Pre-Tier 4 machines remain attractive for buyers in less emission-regulated environments. GPS-equipped D6T XW models command a noticeable premium.
